Lions Matt Stafford and Calvin Johnson Interview with Bob Costas
Posted: December 6, 2011 in FootballTags: Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions, Matthew Stafford
The Detroit Lions have had an exciting season thus far, despite a few minor public setbacks (Ndahmukong Suh suspension), and is tied (7-5) with the Chicago Bears in the NFC North. NBC’s Bob Costas interviewed Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson last night on Football Night in America. Costas asked the teamates about issues ranging from their chemistry on the field to Ndahmukong Suh getting back on track.
Check out exerpts from the interview below:
Stafford and Johnson discussions with Suh after the Thanksgiving day game:
Johnson: I haven’t really talked to him myself. Really the only thing you can say is you’ve just got to be smart. Coach said it earlier in the week. We can’t do things; not just hurt yourself, but hurts the team.
Stafford: I haven’t really [talked to him]. He’s a smart kid and he understands what he did. It was a tough situation obviously to be on national TV and everyone to say whatever they want about it, but he’s going to learn from it. He’s going to move on.
On the Lions playing in high profile games:
Stafford: It’s something we embrace. We play this game to be able to be on TV. You play this game to compete and to win, and when you win you get opportunities to play on Sunday Night Football. Our fans appreciate the effort and the product we’re putting out.
Johnson: I can’t answer any better than he did. It’s definitely for the fans. It’s great to be at home and someone walks up to you on the street, even after a loss, comes up to you and says, ‘Hey, we’re pulling for you.’ Just to hear that feels great.
Boston Celtics aren’t trading Rajon Rondo for Chris Paul
Posted: December 3, 2011 in BasketballTags: Boston Celtics, Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets, Rajon Rondo, Trade
Let the NBA trade rumors begin! Since the NBA lockout ended last week trade rumors surrounding your favorite players have swept the web, especially regarding Rajon Rondo and Chris Paul. Rumor had it that the Boston Celtics wanted to trade superstar point guard Rajon Rondo for Hornets front man Chris Paul, but according to president of basketball operations Danny Ainge, the Boston Celtics have no intention of trading Rondo. Danny Ainge said:
I’ll talk to Rondo. But I won’t tell you what I’ll say to him. Rondo will be fine, Rondo knows that we love him. He knows that we like him. He’s excited to come back and play basketball, in my opinion. He gets a lot of attention. He’s a great player. There’s a lot of people that call me and ask me about Rondo. So, how these rumors get out, it’s unfortunate, but we didn’t leak those rumors out.
Regardless of the rumors, deals and offers can’t be made until after Dec. 9 when training camp opens.

Not only can Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight like a beast in the ring, he can knock you out on national radio, too! Mayweather got into a heated and quite funny argument with Shade 45 radio host, Rude Jude. Immediately after Mayweather called into the show, he went H.A.M on the radio host. Mayweather accused Jude of talking reckless about him. In return, Jude accused Mayweather of ducking fights. Rude Jude and Mayweather continued to argue like two kids fighting over who gets the last piece of fried chicken! If you’re looking for a good laugh, Listen to the clip below:
Let the games begin! Shaq is dishing out more details from his autobiography “Shaq Uncut: My Story.” This time he’s going in on Orlando Magic forward, Dwight Howard. In his book, out on November 15, Shaq reveals frank details about his relationships with Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, and Dwight Howard. All three players have yet to respond to Shaq’s comments, but that might change once the book is released in its entirety.
Check out the excerpts below:
On his disappointment in Dwight Howard:
Dwight Howard is by himself. If he doesn’t get four rings, I’ll be disappointed in him. There’s no one for him to go up against. When I was playing I had [Patrick] Ewing in his prime. I had Rik Smits, Arvydas Sabonis, Alonzo Mourning, Dikembe Mutumbo. I had Vlade Divac, Kevin Duckworth. I caught some of David Robinson. [Greg] Ostertag. Guys with size. Now, I couldn’t name five centers.
Dwight Howard and I don’t really have a relationship. I don’t like people who lack originality. The whole Superman thing doesn’t work for me. … It’s kind of weird how he’s handled his career. He wants to be Superman. They’re talking about him going to L.A. when his contract is up. When I go back to the Orlando area in the offseason, they are doing all the same things for him they did for me. But that’s a mistake. He’s Dwight Howard. He’s not Shaq. Be your own man. Create your own brand.
I do feel for him sometimes. It’s all on his shoulders, just like it was all on mine, and when he doesn’t get it done he’s the one standing there trying to explain, even though he put up huge numbers. Nothing changes in the NBA. It’s not always fun being Dwight Howard, but if you call yourself The Man, well, you gotta deal with it.
